C.S. Lovett wrote a book called “Help Lord – The Devil Wants Me Fat!” This book came as a result of an article he wrote, called “Can the Devil make you fat?” He states in the book that “If you were to go through the stack of letters on one sitting (resulting from article), you’d get the feeling that Satan had unleashed an army of glutton demons on American Christians.” I tend to agree.
With this in mind we must remember that this is not just a physical battle we’re fighting but a spiritual one as well. If we’re going to win this fight of unhealthy, undisciplined living, we must be prepared for battle. So how do we do that? Like any army would:
Know the enemy.
How does he attach you?
- At work, home, etc.
- When you’re sad, glad…
What are his weapons?
- Chocolate, gravy, bread…
- Mom’s cooking…
- Doubting “I can’t do this”
His characteristics – John 8:44; John 10:10; I John 3:8
- He’s a murderer and he wants you dead
- He’s a thief and he’ll still your joy, your health
- He’s a liar.
- He’s experienced
Realize he’s already defeated – I John 3:8
- Talk to him in the name of Jesus and remind him of this
Know your Commander and Chief – Jesus Christ.
- Draw near to…James 4:4-10
- Know what He wants (what pleases Him)…Eph. 5:10
Put on your Fighting Clothes – The Armor of God
- Gird your waist with TRUTH
- Breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS
- Shoes of the PEACE
- Shield of FAITH
- Helmet of SALVATION
- Sword of the SPIRIT which is the WORD of God
- Always pray in the Spirit
- Watching until the end
- Persevering and praying for others
Don’t allow him a foothold – Eph. 4:27
- For every inch, he’ll take a mile, stay focused
- Arm yourself with the Word - Psa. 119:11; Eph. 6:17 - This sword (the Word) can pierce the Devil and disarm him.
